Approach

Services provided for MODU and Offshore Vessels includes but are not limited to:

  • Intake preparation and process
  • Assessment
  • Audits
  • CMID
  • Verification
  • Vessel assurance

The process will be based on technical conditions and requirements including evaluation of management systems, maintenance systems, operational- and organizational requirements, training and competence, and historical performance and conditions, with emphasis on aspects with high risk or influence on Health, Safety and Environment.

Barents Energy Assurance is providing a wide range of services verifying the Readiness for Operation of the Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) or Offshore Vessel.

  • Contract Compliance and Verification
  • Functional Requirements Verification
  • Marine Integrity
  • Dynamic Positioning Systems
  • Ballast Control and Stability
  • Drilling Control System
  • Drilling Operations
  • Well Control
  • Safety Management Systems
  • Barrier Control
  • Maintenance Systems
  • Electrical Systems
  • Safety Systems
  • Lifting Equipment
  • Dropped objects

Risk Management

The objective is to consider the design and operating effectiveness of the risk management activities identified in the table below.

Risk Area Local Manifestation of Risk Risk Management Activity
Management of operations. Failure to manage well control leading to a loss of well fluids, potential fire, explosion and environmental damage. Well control management process.

Design and maintenance of well control equipment and systems.

Maintenance. Failure of rig equipment leading to, potential injury to personnel, damage to plant or the environment and unproductive time. Rig maintenance and inspection programme.
Risk Management. Failure to manage HSE on the rig leading to event escalation, potential injury to personnel and damage to plant or the environment. Rig safety management system.
Training and Assessment. Failure to provide trained and competent personnel to operate the rig leading to event escalation, potential injury to personnel, damage to plant or the environment and unproductive time. Training and competency assessment processes and their status for all core disciplines.
Marine Integrity. Loss of marine integrity leading to loss of stability, loss of position or collision. Maintenance of marine systems and marine operations processes in line with applicable requirements and industry standards.

Methodology

The risk management activities will be considered through a combination of the following;

  • Verify and assess Technical Condition, Operations and Performance by crew.
  • Document reviews.
  • Verify functionality and capability of key systems.

Performance will be evaluated against the relevant Operator, Drilling contractor and industry standards applicable for the specific region.
